WEB DESK: A massive fire broke out late Wednesday night in the Matiala area of West Delhi, destroying nearly 400 homes in a crowded slum cluster.
The flames spread quickly through the shanties and a nearby fish market, lighting up the night sky and causing widespread panic. Despite the scale of the blaze, fire officials confirmed that everyone managed to escape safely, and no lives were lost in the disaster.
Emergency response and containment
Over 20 fire engines rushed to the scene just before midnight to battle the inferno. It took the crews several hours of hard work to finally get the fire under control by the early hours of Thursday morning. While the fire is now out, hundreds of families have been left homeless, losing almost everything they owned in the smoke and flames.
As the sun rose on Thursday, residents began searching through the blackened ruins for any items that might have survived. Authorities are currently carrying out “cooling operations” to make sure no hidden embers restart the fire.
An investigation has been launched to find out exactly what caused the spark, as the city deals with one of its most destructive fires in recent months.
