WEB DESK: Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has expressed his gratitude to the Pakistani government after receiving a consignment of mangoes at his office in Budapest.
In a social media post, Magyar shared that the gift of 90 mangoes, sent by the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was waiting for him at the conclusion of what he described as a “historic day.”
The Hungarian leader contrasted the seasonal fruit with more conventional or rigid diplomatic offerings, noting that “not everyone gives a revolver as a gift.”
According to Magyar, the gesture was well received by his office staff. The consignment was consumed quickly, with the Hungarian Prime Minister noting that only a few mangoes were left within an hour of their arrival.
Growing bilateral ties
The diplomatic gesture reflects the steady diplomatic relations between Islamabad and Budapest. Bilateral cooperation has expanded in recent years through regular high-level exchanges and the Pakistan–Hungary Joint Economic Commission. Economic ties remain centred largely around trade and the energy sector, driven by long-term Hungarian investments in Pakistan’s oil and gas exploration fields.
