CALGARY: The Carolina Hurricanes will look to keep their winning streak alive when they visit the struggling Calgary Flames on Saturday night.
Riding back-to-back victories, a 6-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks and a 6-3 triumph against the Edmonton Oilers, Carolina has been dominant, scoring 12 goals in the last two games and recording 12 wins, 1 loss, and 2 overtime defeats in their past 15 outings. Forward Jackson Blake, who netted twice in Edmonton, said, “Back-to-backs are tough, but no excuses. We just have to stay focused and finish this road trip strong.”
Carolina’s defence was especially impressive in Edmonton, outshooting the Oilers 32-16, despite losing Shayne Gostisbehere to a lower-body injury. Defenseman Jalen Chatfield praised the team effort, noting that everyone stepped up to fill the gap.
The Flames, meanwhile, have struggled at home, losing four straight and making significant roster changes ahead of the trade deadline. Top-line centre Nazem Kadri and defenseman MacKenzie Weegar were traded, while Ryan Strome was brought in to provide leadership and depth. Flames GM Craig Conroy said the moves are part of a “long-term plan to rebuild and compete consistently.”
Carolina will look to maintain momentum against a Calgary side desperate for a spark, while the Flames hope their young roster and new acquisitions can turn around a disappointing season.
