WEB DESK: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering major changes to global cricket formats, with several proposals under review to make international tournaments more competitive and commercially attractive.
According to the BBC, the ICC is exploring the introduction of a Super Six stage in the 2027 ODI World Cup, a move that could increase the number of high-profile encounters between traditional rivals, including Pakistan and India.
The governing body is also reviewing changes to the T20 World Cup structure, with discussions underway to replace the current Super Eight stage with a Super Ten format in future editions.
Meanwhile, the ICC is considering adding semi-finals to the World Test Championship to enhance the excitement of the longest format and encourage greater participation and competitiveness among mid-ranked Test nations.
In addition, cricket authorities are working on plans for a World Club T20 tournament inspired by football’s club competitions, while future bilateral series could be replaced with more four-nation mini-tournaments.
The proposed reforms are aimed at creating a more engaging cricket calendar, increasing global viewership, and providing teams with more competitive opportunities across formats.
