ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has decided to formally register all online taxi services and launch a crackdown on unregistered taxi and bike-riding operators, officials said on Monday.
The Islamabad district administration said that it would require all app-based ride-hailing services to undergo official registration, under which detailed information about drivers and vehicles would be collected.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (East) has been directed to contact chief executives of all taxi service companies operating in the city, while the Islamabad deputy commissioner has instructed the Islamabad Transport Authority secretary to initiate action against unregistered bike taxi operators.
Officials said that the registration of all unregistered vehicles and bike services would be carried out under a digital automation system.
Islamabad police will be granted access to all data through the registration app.
Officials said that after registration, drivers will be required to upload passenger details on the app before commencing a ride.
They said that without entering the passenger’s national identity card number, drivers will not be permitted to carry passengers.
The officials said that formal registration will begin from Tuesday on the instructions of the Islamabad deputy commissioner.
