RAHIM YAR KHAN: Punjab Inspector General (IG) Rao Abdul Karim visited the Kachha area of Rahim Yar Khan to take direct command of ongoing police operations against armed robbers, officials confirmed.
During his visit, he inspected the Garhi Khair Muhammad Jhak police post and was briefed by the Regional Police Officer (RPO) on the overall security situation in the region.
The police have also recovered an arsenal of dangerous and modern weapons from the robbers, including rocket launchers, mortar shells, anti-aircraft guns, Kalashnikov rifles, and large quantities of ammunition, according to IG Punjab. These weapons had reportedly been used by robbers to attack law enforcement personnel.
In the ongoing Kachha operation, 68 robbers were killed while 97 were arrested in injured condition. Additionally, 216 robbers, including 15 high-profile criminals with bounties exceeding 100 million rupees, have surrendered to authorities. The surrendered individuals are now being processed through the legal system.
IG Punjab also commended the high morale and dedication of police personnel deployed on the Kachha fronts and assured that authorities are taking active measures for the rehabilitation of local communities affected by criminal activities.
The visit was coordinated with RPO Bahawalpur and DPO Rahim Yar Khan, who welcomed IG Punjab and briefed him on the achievements of the district police in recent operations.
About two months ago, the provincial government introduced a pardon policy to persuade insurgents in the violence-prone area to surrender their arms. While the initiative initially saw notable success, reports now point to a renewed spike in violence shortly after its launch.
