ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has set a praiseworthy example by ensuring justice for a visually impaired woman named Darakhshan Mirza, who was defrauded by a bank manager.

The court helped secure the recovery of Rs19.2 million and ordered that the convicted banker’s two vehicles be handed over to her to cover the remaining amount.

The case was heard by a division bench comprising Justice Azam Khan and Justice Inam Amin Minhas.

The court directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to recover the two vehicles of convicted bank manager Ramiz Javaid within one week and submit a report.

During the hearing, Darakhshan Mirza appeared before the court and expressed gratitude to the judges, saying, “I am very thankful to both honourable judges.”

Assistant Attorney General Azmat Bashir Tarar informed the court that Rs15.9 million had already been returned to the victim, while two additional cheques of Rs2.8 million and Rs530,000 were also recently received.

With this, a total of Rs19.2 million has now been recovered. He assured the court that the remaining amount would be recovered through the seizure of the convict’s two vehicles within a week.

Ramiz Javaid, who is currently serving a five-year prison sentence in Adiala Jail, was convicted in a multi-million-rupee fraud case involving the embezzlement of over Rs20 million from the visually impaired woman.

The IHC upheld the conviction and ordered full recovery of the stolen amount. The victim had filed a petition over the non-recovery of the remaining funds.

The court has now sought a progress report from the FIA and adjourned further hearing until July 7.
