ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has turned down the Additional Attorney General’s plea to dismiss the petition concerning the recovery of poet Ahmed Farhad.

IHC judge Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard the petition filed by Farhad’s wife, Urooj Zainab.

The petitioner’s legal team Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali and Additional Attorney General Manoor Iqbal appeared in the court

Manoor Iqbal told the court that Ahmed Farhad was in physical remand until June 2 and had been allowed meet his family, pleading that the habeas corpus petition be disposed of.

However, Iman Mazari countered, arguing that they not only demanded the safe return of Farhad but also sought accountability for those responsible for his enforced disappearance.

After the arguments, the court rejected the Additional Attorney General’s request for disposing of the plea, stating that the case would only be disposed of once Farhad personally appears in court.

“The day Ahmed Farhad appears in the court, we will dispose of the petition,” Justice Kayani declared.

The hearing was adjourned, with further proceedings scheduled for June 7.
