IHC summons caretaker PM in Baloch students case

Baloch students case

ISLAMABAD: In the case of enforced disappearance of Baloch students, the single member bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar to appear in court.

During the hearing, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani said that the caretaker PM should himself appear and explain why a case should not be filed against him.

“The punishment for enforced disappearance should be the death penalty,” Justice Kayani remarked.

The caretaker prime minister is scheduled to appear in court on Monday at 10 AM. Justice Kayani added that he would also call the elected prime minister to the court, if need be. “I could have also summoned the two DIGs, but I did not”, Justice Kayani said.

During the hearing, the Assistant Attorney General informed that another one of the 12 disappeared students has been recovered. He also requested that since the Attorney General was not available today, the hearing may be adjourned.

The IHC rejected the plea to adjourn the hearing.
