Illegal Indian immigrant in US faces multiple charges after fatal Ohio crash

Accident 1 Ohio Indian illegal immigrant

An Indian national living in the United States without legal authorisation is facing multiple felony charges following a high-speed crash in Ohio that killed a 17-year-old pregnant passenger and her unborn child, officials said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Tarsem Singh, who allegedly fled from police at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour before losing control of his vehicle. The crash reportedly threw the teenage passenger, Ashlee Holmes, and her unborn child from the car, resulting in their deaths at the scene. Singh sustained only minor injuries in the collision.

Singh has been held on a $1 million bond and was formally indicted on March 23 on multiple charges, including two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of Holmes and her unborn child, two counts of reckless homicide, two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, felony vehicular assault, and failure to comply with a police officer’s order.

Officials allege the crash occurred after Singh refused to stop for law enforcement, prompting a dangerous high-speed pursuit that ended in the fatal accident. Details of the initial police engagement have not been fully released.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that an immigration detainer has been lodged against Singh. This ensures that after the criminal proceedings conclude, he will face deportation and will not be released into the community.

Authorities emphasised that the detainer prevents the suspect from evading justice while reinforcing the consequences of living in the US without legal authorisation. The case continues to be investigated, with court proceedings pending as officials review the circumstances of the crash and the ensuing pursuit.
