Imran Khan alleges mental torture during meeting with sister

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan met his sister Uzma Khan at Adiala jail on Tuesday after a hiatus of 29 days,.

Talking to the media after the 20-minute meeting, Uzma Khan told reporters after that her brother’s health was “Alhamdulillah fine,” but he appeared extremely angry. She said that Imran Khan said he was being subjected to mental torture inside the jail.

According to sources, Uzma Khan was allowed to enter the jail alone through Gate No-5 in a specially assigned vehicle. The jail superintendent permitted a one-person, one-meeting policy. While meetings were restored after 29 days for Imran Khan, Alima Khan and Barrister Salman Akram Raja were reportedly denied access.

The meeting took place under tight security, with a heavy police presence and the strictest security arrangements in the history of Adiala jail.

A large number of PTI workers and women activists gathered outside the jail and engaged in chanting after the meeting was permitted.

In preparation for the visit, Section 144 was imposed, and all educational institutions and shops along Adiala Road were ordered to remain closed.

The Rawalpindi district administration had also deployed additional security personnel and established five checkpoints near the jail, including at Dahgal Naka, Gate 1, Gate 5, Factory Naka, and Gorakhpur, with over 700 police officers on duty.

Uzma Khan said that her brother expressed frustration over his isolation, stating that he was often kept confined to his room and occasionally allowed outside. She said that he described the treatment as mental torture, asserting that physical torture is less severe than the psychological pressure he faces.

Imran Khan reportedly discussed various party matters, including instructions for PTI leaders and legal support, and urged party members to back Salman Akram Raja and Hamid Khan.

He also named Shahid Khatak as parliamentary leader and asked KP Chief minister Sohail Afridi to take the lead on front-line political efforts.

Uzma Khan said that Khan voiced concern over national security, economic policies, and increasing terrorism, blaming the current government for the country’s deteriorating situation.

She said he emphasized the need for political and public resistance against corruption, mafia networks and foreign exploitation.

Meanwhile, all private educational institutions in Gorakhpur and surrounding areas remained closed on Tuesday, while local traders were instructed to keep markets shut. Police maintained heightened alertness across multiple strategic points on Adiala Road to ensure security.
