Imran Khan challenges his convictions in IHC

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has filed appeals in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against his convictions in cipher and Toshakhana cases
The appeals were filed in the Islamabad High Court by Khan’s legal team.
The Official Secrets Act special court convicted Khan in the cipher case on January 30, while the Islamabad Accountability Court sentenced him and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case on January 31.
Speaking on behalf of Imran Khan, Sardar Latif Khosa, a prominent lawyer, confirmed the filing of appeals against the convictions in the IHC. Khosa stated, “We have filed appeals against the conviction of PTI Founder Imran Khan in both the cipher case and the Toshakhana cases.”

In the appeals, Imran Khan has sought to declare the sentences in both cases null and void. He has also urged the court to suspend his sentence and grant bail till a final decision on his appeals.
Imran Khan has asked to fix the appeals for hearing on Tuesday.
Additionally, an appeal related to the Iddat case has been submitted in the sessions court, Khosa added.
On January 31, accountability court Judge Muhammad Bashir pronounced the Toshakhana reference case and sentenced Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14-year imprisonment each
The PTI founder was also disqualified from holding any public office for 10 years. A fine of Rs787 million was also imposed on each, which collectively totaled Rs158.30 billion.
