RAWALPINDI: Alima Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has confirmed that the viral image of her brother exercising, which recently circulated widely on social media, is authentic.
Speaking to the media after her appearance at an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi, Alima Khan said, “This picture of Imran Khan is real. When I first saw it, I even sent it to someone to check if it might be AI, because he looks exactly like him. I am certain it is Imran Khan himself. The picture seems to be from the summer. This is how he is in jail.”
Aleema Khan said the PTI founder was being kept in solitary confinement. Referring to the image that surfaced on social media, she said the picture appeared to be old but seemed genuine, adding that the media should also verify its authenticity.
She said that Imran Khan never gave up two things: faith in Allah and exercise. “Even when confined, he manages to exercise inside his cell,” she said, adding that meeting Imran Khan at Adiala jail was their constitutional, legal and moral right.
She said that any judge who could not dispense justice in accordance with the Constitution and the law should vacate the office.
Aleema Khan said that anyone seeking the release of the PTI founder was part of their team.
She rejected claims of divisions within PTI, saying that the so-called “Aleema Khan Group” and “Bushra Bibi Group” were propaganda spread by agencies.
Responding to a journalist’s question about allegations of her links with agencies, Aleema Khan said, “Which agency? MI or ISI? These are all our own agencies.”
She said she was ready to bear all the pressure and that anyone who wished could name her.
“They do not allow us to meet him (Imran Khan), they throw water at us. They can do whatever they want, but we will not step back from our objective,” she said, adding that she felt pity for those who took Sher Afzal Marwat seriously.
She further said that she had told the judge that those testifying against her were merely constables and were giving false testimony on the Holy Quran.
“They will be punished. They are sacrificial goats; the real culprits are those who force them to testify,” she said.
Aleema Khan said that Imran Khan had founded the PTI for justice, the Constitution and the rule of law, and that he had been imprisoned for the past two-and-a-half years for these very principles.
She said keeping anyone in solitary confinement for more than five days amounted to torture under international law, and that they would again go to seek a meeting on Tuesday.
Alima Khan said the PTI founder would not strike any deal or compromise on three issues: the supremacy of the Constitution, the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, and transparent elections. She said that ethics were being eroded in courts on a daily basis.
