Imran Khan not operating X account from Adiala jail: IHC told

Khawaja Asif alleges Imran Khan receiving special privileges in jail

ISLAMABAD: The Adiala jail superintendent has submitted a response in the court on a petition seeking the suspension of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former prime minister Imran Khan’s X account.

The jail official told the Islamabad High Court that the impression that Imran Khan’s X account is being operated from inside the prison is incorrect, and all such speculation is baseless.

In his response, the Adiala jail superintendent clarified that the PTI founder is under strict surveillance in jail and there is no possibility of him possessing a mobile phone or any other prohibited item.

The reply submitted to the IHC further stated that no prohibited item, including mobile phones, is permitted under jail rules.

“Mobile phone signal jammers have been installed inside Adiala jail, which completely block all mobile signals inside and around the facility,” the jail official said.

The superintendent said that Imran Khan and the staff assigned to him are subjected to continuous searches, making access to any prohibited facility impossible.

The reply said that jail rule 265 also bars the PTI founder from engaging in political discussions; however, during jail trial meetings, his family members and lawyers sometimes violate the rules and engage in political conversations.

The superintendent stated that in the past, political directions allegedly issued from Imran Khan during incarceration had fueled violence on several occasions, but his X account is not being operated from inside the jail.

He further informed the court that the account is being run from outside the prison, as no mobile or internet access is available inside.

He said that Imran Khan is only provided the facilities allowed under jail rules or court orders.
