Imran Khan says will personally lead protest movement from jail

Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has said that all legal and constitutional avenues have been closed for the party, and he will now personally lead a protest movement from prison as the party’s head.

In a post shared from his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Khan, currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail, said: “The rule of the jungle prevails in this country. All legal and constitutional paths have been blocked for PTI, so I will now lead the protest movement from jail as the party chairman. Omar Ayub will represent me outside, and Salman Akram Raja will ensure implementation of my instructions.”

Khan said that a detailed plan for the movement would be presented to the nation in the coming days. He said the party would invite its allied groups, including the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain (Movement for the Protection of the Constitution), the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), and Mahrang Baloch to join the movement. “God willing, no one will be able to stop this movement,” he said.

Addressing the people of Pakistan, Khan warned that restrictions on his meetings may be reimposed, but the nation must stand up for the country’s “true freedom.”

Khan stressed that the protest would be nationwide and sustained. “Snipers are deployed in Islamabad who open direct fire on innocent civilians and peaceful protesters. The kind of bloodshed inflicted on PTI has not been seen with any other political party,” he said.

In a message to PTI leaders, Khan said, “If I can endure jail, you must not be afraid either. Until now, the party was handed to everyone ready-made. Now is the time of adversity — and a test for all.”

He revealed that after his arrest, he was advised to remain silent for three years and quietly retreat to Bani Gala, as Nawaz Sharif had done for a decade. “But I am not a coward, and I cannot remain silent in the face of tyranny.”

Referring to the recent by-election in Sambrial, Khan said, “The people’s decision was already made on February 8, but their mandate was shamelessly trampled through blatant rigging once again.”

He questioned, “Those who stole our two-thirds mandate on February 8 — how could they allow us to win a by-election? They fear my release from jail. But the reality is that the PML-N and PPP are now nothing more than political corpses. They should return to their true home — London.”

Khan alleged that crushing PTI was part of the so-called “London Plan,” under which the events of May 9 were orchestrated, aimed at breaking and dismantling the party.

He said the judiciary in Pakistan had been completely paralysed, and now the party’s reserved seats were being taken away through courts formed under the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

On talks with the government, Khan remarked: “What is there to discuss with this government, which is a product of two NROs? These puppets first took an NRO from former Gen Pervez Musharraf, and then from former Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, to get their corruption cases quashed.”

He said his basic human rights had been suspended. “I’ve been imprisoned for two years, and my wife has been in jail for 14 months. I am enduring all this for the nation — I will never make a deal.”

Sending a message to the military establishment, Khan said: “You need PTI — I do not need you. Real power belongs to whoever has the people’s support.”

He underscored the need for national unity, citing three reasons:”Modi is wounded and could attack Pakistan again. India’s economy is far stronger than ours, with $700 billion in reserves. We must also be economically stable to face such threats.”

“Terror attacks are increasing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where innocent lives are being lost.”

“The economy is in complete ruins, and both investors and the youth are leaving the country in large numbers.”

He concluded by saying: “A country without justice cannot attract investment. Try any formula you like — unless a government reflecting the people’s will is in place, economic revival will remain just a dream.”
