Imran Khan speaks to sons as opposition sit-in over his health enters second day

ISLAMABAD: Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan was allowed to speak by telephone with his sons Kasim and Sulaiman, sources said, following directives from the Supreme Court.

According to sources, the conversation took place at Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, where Khan has been incarcerated.

Jail authorities said that the call lasted more than 30 minutes.

A federal minister also confirmed that Khan had spoken with his sons. Further details of the conversation were not disclosed.

The development comes amid heightened political activity over Khan’s health.

Lawmakers belonging to the opposition Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) alliance continued their sit-in outside Parliament House in Islamabad for a second consecutive day, expressing concern over the former premier’s medical condition.

Opposition leaders have demanded transparency regarding Khan’s health, particularly after reports that his eyesight has deteriorated significantly.

The protest was linked to the reports that Khan’s vision in one eye had been reduced to around 15 per cent, prompting calls for an independent medical examination.

Government officials have rejected allegations of mistreatment and said court orders regarding medical access and family contact were being implemented.

Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been imprisoned since 2023 in multiple cases and remains at the centre of political tensions between the ruling coalition and the opposition.
