Imran Khan speaks to sons from jail on Eid

RAWALPINDI: Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan spoke to his sons by telephone from prison on Eid-ul-Fitr, Adiala jail sources said on Saturday, as he marked his third Eid in custody.

According to prison officials, Khan held a 25–30 minute call with his sons, Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan, during which they inquired about his health. Sources said Khan appeared pleased after the conversation.

The call came as Eid prayers were held across the country, including at Adiala jail, where inmates offered prayers at the prison mosque and imambargah. However, Khan did not attend the congregational prayers due to security reasons and instead remained in his cell during the prayer.

Khan has now spent three Eid-ul-Fitr in detention. Jail sources said his wife, Bushra Bibi, also remained in her cell during Eid prayers.

Earlier, Khan’s former wife Jemima Goldsmith urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to facilitate visas for their sons to visit Pakistan, highlighting concerns over family access during his imprisonment.

In a post on the social media platform X, Goldsmith said her sons, Sulaiman and Kasim, applied for visas in January but had yet to receive approval.

She said the Pakistan Consulate indicated that online visa applications normally take seven to 10 working days to process, but more than 60 days had passed.

Khan’s continued incarceration remains a focal point in Pakistan’s political landscape, with his party maintaining that the cases against him are politically motivated, while the government denies the allegations.
