ISLAMABAD: Noreen Niazi, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s, was injured after falling into an under-construction drain outside Adiala jail on Tuesday, police and party officials said.
Noreen Niazi, accompanied by her sisters and PTI workers, was attempting to visit Khan at the jail when police stopped the group at Dahgal check post.
According to reports, she tried to cross an unfinished drainage line near the checkpoint but slipped and fell, sustaining minor injuries.
Another woman with her also fell into the drain but was safely rescued.
The incident occurred amid ongoing tensions at the checkpoint, where police again prevented Khan’s three sisters from entering the jail for a scheduled meeting.
Following the denial of entry, the sisters and PTI supporters staged a sit-in protest at the Dahgal check post.
Officials said that Noreen Niazi and the other woman received medical treatment at the scene and no serious injuries were reported.
The blockade at the checkpoint continued, preventing the family from meeting Khan.
This episode comes amid heightened security and restrictions around Adiala jail, where Imran Khan is currently held.
Earlier, Imran Khan, was rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for a scheduled follow-up of his ongoing eye treatment.
Hospital officials said he received the second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection on February 24 as part of his treatment plan. Before the procedure, he was examined by a panel of specialists, including a consultant cardiologist who conducted an echocardiography and ECG, both of which were reported to be normal, along with an assessment by a consultant physician.
