Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle was given a ceremonial farewell in Mumbai on Monday, wrapped in the Indian tricolour as the nation paid tribute to one of its most iconic voices.

The tribute took place at her residence in Lower Parel, where family members, close friends and admirers gathered to honour her legacy. According to Gulf News, Soldiers were seen formally draping her casket in the national flag, which was adorned with white lilies, symbolising respect and remembrance.
Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital after suffering from multi-organ failure. She had been admitted a day earlier due to a chest infection and severe fatigue. She is survived by her son and granddaughter, who remained by the family’s side during the mourning.
Final tributes at her Mumbai residence
A steady stream of visitors arrived at her home to pay their last respects, with tributes continuing until the afternoon before the funeral procession was scheduled to move to Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar.

The last rites were set to take place later in the day, marking the final farewell to a figure whose voice shaped generations of Indian cinema and music.
The atmosphere at the residence was deeply emotional, with family members receiving condolences from across the film and music industry.
Celebrities and public figures pay respects
Prominent personalities including actor Tabu, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali, music composer A. R. Rahman, and veteran actress Asha Parekh visited the residence to offer condolences.

Several visitors were seen consoling family members, particularly Bhosle’s granddaughter, in moments marked by grief and reflection.

The sight of her flag-draped casket surrounded by white flowers and ceremonial honour reflected the scale of her contribution to Indian music. For more than eight decades, Asha Bhosle’s voice became an inseparable part of India’s cultural identity.
Her passing has left a deep void in the country’s artistic landscape, with tributes pouring in from across the world, celebrating a legacy that will endure for generations.
