IND VS SA: Kohli ahead of Tendulkar, Sharma surpasses Afridi

IND VS SA: Virat Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s ODIs record

ISLAMABAD: In a historic first ODI against South Africa, Indian batting legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shattered long-standing records, underlining their dominance in world cricket.

Kohli Overtakes Tendulkar

Virat Kohli scored his 52nd ODI century, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries in a single format, becoming the player with the most centuries in any format globally. This also marked his 83rd international century across Tests, ODIs, and T20s, showcasing his consistency and longevity at the highest level.

After an early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kohli formed a crucial partnership with Rohit Sharma, stabilizing the innings with exquisite cover drives, smart strike rotation, and controlled aggression. At 36, Kohli remains determined to break more records, with 28,000 international runs now his next major milestone, which is a feat only previously achieved by Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.

Sharma Breaks Afridi’s Sixes Record

Rohit Sharma also made headlines, hitting three sixes to take his ODI career total to 352, surpassing Shahid Afridi’s record of 351 sixes. Sharma achieved this milestone in just 269 innings, significantly faster than Afridi, who reached 351 in 369 innings. West Indies’ Chris Gayle ranks third with 331 sixes.

The duo’s outstanding performance not only set the tone for India’s innings but also reinforced their status as modern cricketing icons. With Kohli rewriting batting records and Sharma smashing power-hitting milestones, India’s top order continues to dominate on the world stage, leaving fans and opponents in awe.
