World number one Carlos Alcaraz powered into the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Open on Thursday with a straight-sets victory over Cameron Norrie, winning 6-3, 6-4. His win sets up a last-four clash with Daniil Medvedev, who earlier defeated defending champion Jack Draper.
Fresh off his triumph at the Australian Open, Alcaraz continued his strong start to the season, extending his unbeaten run to 16 matches. The Spaniard handled the opening set comfortably against Norrie and, after briefly trailing 0-2 in the second, quickly regained control to close out the match and keep his hopes alive for a third title at Indian Wells.
Earlier in the day, Medvedev secured his place in the semi-finals with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Draper. The Russian dominated the first set as Draper struggled to recover from his demanding three-set victory over Novak Djokovic in the previous round.
Draper improved in the second set and matched Medvedev game for game until the score reached 5–5. However, the momentum shifted when the Briton received a controversial point penalty, allowing Medvedev to break serve late before closing out the match.
With the victory, the 30-year-old Medvedev advanced to the Indian Wells semi-finals for the fourth consecutive year.
