WEB DESK: The Punjab Assembly saw the inquiry report into the disorder that occurred during the visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to the provincial assembly. The report was submitted by Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmed Khan.
Addressing the assembly, Malik Ahmed Khan said that the individuals who entered from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly displayed “immature behavior” and some were involved in acts of vandalism and encirclement. He noted that the first violation was committed at the entrance gate by members of PTI, and criticized that instead of being detained, such individuals were brought into the assembly premises.
The speaker said the incident had been investigated at the highest level and steps had been taken to remove all obstacles within the assembly. He emphasised that the assembly operates strictly according to rules, and no one, including the speaker, can allow deviations beyond procedural regulations.
Malik Ahmed Khan highlighted that proper permission is mandatory for any guest’s entry into the assembly and stressed that security considerations cannot be ignored under any circumstances. He also pointed out inappropriate conduct toward women and the entry of groups en masse from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, calling it unacceptable.
The speaker commented on the importance of political dialogue, stating that political parties should maintain communication across the country as they strengthen the federation. He condemned the use of inappropriate language against the Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz during the incident.
On a positive note, Malik Ahmed Khan expressed that the assembly welcomed the visit of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister but stressed the need to identify the mindset and individuals behind the disorderly behavior.
