G7 blast gas leak Islamabad

WEB DESK: The five-member inquiry committee, set up by the Ministry of Interior on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has completed its investigation into the gas leak explosion in Sector G-7/2, Islamabad, officials said on Thursday.

Sources confirmed that the committee has submitted its report to the Prime Minister, along with recommendations and directives for various government agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Among the key recommendations, the committee advised the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to conduct a fresh survey of informal settlements and bring them under regulatory oversight. Authorities were also instructed to remove illegal encroachments and address unsafe constructions that pose risks to residents.

The committee further recommended that Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) widely publicise its gas load-shedding schedule through traditional media and social media platforms. Public awareness campaigns were also suggested, urging residents to turn off heaters and main gas valves at night to prevent accidents.

In addition, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) was directed to take strict action against substandard and unsafe gas cylinders. The report called for tougher regulations to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

The committee was headed by Additional Secretary Interior Nazir Buzdar and included representatives from the district administration, GHQ, the Intelligence Bureau, and the Capital Emergency Service.
