Inter Miami sign 17‑year‑old midfielder Alexander Shaw to first‑team deal

MIAMI: Inter Miami CF have secured 17‑year‑old homegrown midfielder Alexander Shaw to a first‑team contract, the Major League Soccer club announced on Friday.

Shaw, a product of Inter Miami’s academy system, has signed through the 2026 season, with club options for 2027, 2028 and 2029, giving him a pathway to remain long‑term with the first team.

The teenager made his MLS debut last weekend when he appeared as a substitute in a scoreless draw at Charlotte FC.

“Signing my first contract as a first‑team player is a blessing. It’s something I had been working for since I first joined the academy,” Shaw said in a club statement. “Now that I’m here in the first team, I’m excited to continue to play, enjoy memorable moments with my teammates and start winning trophies.”

Shaw featured prominently last season with Inter Miami CF II in MLS Next Pro, where he made 13 appearances and recorded two assists. His performances earned him short‑term loans to the first team before being offered a permanent MLS contract, the club said.

Inter Miami’s announcement said the deal reflects the club’s ongoing emphasis on developing talent through its academy system and integrating young prospects into the senior squad. The midfielder becomes the latest academy graduate to make the step up to MLS full‑time.

The move comes as Inter Miami continue to compete on multiple fronts, balancing league fixtures with cup competitions and nurturing a generation of homegrown players amid broader roster building efforts.
