ISLAMABAD: Internet services have been fully restored across Pakistan after faults in the SMW-5 submarine cable were completely resolved, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on Friday.

In a statement, the PTA said the SMW-5 submarine cable had resumed full operations, restoring internet connectivity to normal across the country. The regulator said internet traffic had been rerouted through alternative international links during the repair work to minimise disruption for users.

According to the PTA, contingency measures helped reduce the impact on internet users while restoration efforts were underway.

The authority said it remained in continuous coordination with Transworld Associates throughout the repair process. The PTA added that it continues to closely monitor Pakistan’s international internet infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable and uninterrupted broadband services across the country.
