WEB DESK: Apple has updated its vintage and obsolete products list, adding the iPhone 5s, the sixth-generation iPod touch, and an older iMac model. These changes affect the availability of repair services and support for these devices.
The iPhone 5s is now classified as an “obsolete” product worldwide. This designation means that Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers will no longer offer repairs or hardware services for this device.
According to Apple’s policy, a product is deemed obsolete when seven years have passed since it was last sold by the company.
Launched in September 2013, the iPhone 5s was notable for introducing the Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated into the Home button and the A7 chip, Apple’s first 64-bit architecture chip in an iPhone.
Additionally, Apple has added the sixth-generation iPod touch and the late 2015 21.5-inch iMac with a Retina 4K display to its “vintage” products list. A product is considered vintage when more than five years have passed since it was last available for purchase.
Although these products are now vintage, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers can still offer repairs for up to two more years, provided that parts are available.
Released in 2015, the sixth-generation iPod touch was the second-last model in the iPod touch line, which Apple discontinued in 2022. The late 2015 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display was distinguished by its high-resolution screen, catering to users seeking superior display quality.
These updates reflect Apple’s ongoing efforts to manage its product lineup and support services, ensuring that customers are informed about the status and support options for their older devices.
