IPL 2024 playoffs set, RCB win over CSK will determine next matches

BANGALORE: The IPL 2024 playoffs lineup is now complete after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 27 runs and earned a spot in the qualifiers on Saturday during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).

RCB’s finished in the round-robin stage with 14 points. This sets them up for an eliminator match against either Rajasthan Royals (RR) or Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have secured their place in the first qualifier with a tally of 19 points from 13 games. The battle for the top spot in the first qualifier is between RR and SRH. The match is set on the final day of the league stage.

SRH will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the opening fixture, with RR taking on KKR later in the night. In the event of an SRH victory, they will rely on RR’s defeat to secure their spot in the first qualifier 1.

However, if SRH fails to overcome PBKS, Rajasthan Royals will face KKR in the first qualifier on May 21.

The overall schedule for the playoffs will extend from May 21 till May 26.

During the first qualifier on May 21, Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Rajasthan Royals or the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ahmedabad.

The next day during the eliminator round, the Rajasthan Royals or the Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, again at Ahmedabad. May

Meanwhile, during the second qualifier on May 24, the team defeated during the first qualifier will have to face the winner from the eliminator round in Chennai.

The final will be on May 26 where the winner of the first qualifier will be up against the winnder of the second qualifier, again in Chennai.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s ‘statistical standout’

Meanwhile, the RCB has performed consistently well throughout the tournament. The team scored six consecutive wins to finally land in the playoffs.

The current win rate stands as the second-longest winning spree for RCB after defeating CSK in IPL history. Previously, the Bengaluru team had boasted a seven-match win rate back in 2011.

It might have taken them thirteen years, but RCB has risen like a phoenix again. The six-match win also puts them in the same club as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). RCB and KKK are the only two teams to achieve six consecutive wins in IPL history.

The IPL team has also scored six 200-plus runs in IPL 2024, an impressive score rate by any team in a single season of the premiere league.

It’s not only the team doing well. One of RCB’s player Virat Kohli also made history as he surpassed the 3,000 runs threshold during today’s match.
