Pakistani television presenter and Pakistan Awam Raj Tehreek leader Iqrar ul Hassan has allegedly been taken into custody from Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), his family said on Monday, while the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has yet to confirm his arrest.
His family said they did not know the reason for his reported detention. They also contacted the NCCIA police station but were unable to obtain information about his whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Iqrar’s wife, Farah Iqrar, said a group of men arrived at their residence at night and demanded that he come outside.
“We were asleep when we heard loud voices from outside saying, ‘Bring Iqrar out, otherwise we will break everything’,” she said.
Farah alleged that the men climbed over the boundary, pushed her and took Iqrar away. She said two men held him while others seized mobile phones and a laptop. They also took the CCTV cameras when leaving, she alleged. Farah further claimed that the men took her phone when she tried to record the incident.
The NCCIA has not issued an official confirmation of Iqrar’s arrest, and his current whereabouts remain unclear. Officials have so far not provided a public account of the incident.
A video showing Farah and other family members consoling one another has also circulated following the reported detention.
Similarly ARY News anchor Waseem Badami said information about Iqrar’s whereabouts had not yet emerged.
