ISLAMABAD: Iran’s central bank governor Abdolnasser Hemmati met Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday on the sidelines of ongoing US-Iran talks in Islamabad.
Hemmati is part of a high-level Iranian delegation in the Pakistani capital for the talks aimed at easing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
During the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomacy, stressing that peace and stability in the region are essential for economic cooperation and shared progress, said a press release issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The interaction comes as Pakistan hosts the “Islamabad Talks”, a major diplomatic effort to bring the United States and Iran toward a potential settlement following weeks of conflict.
Islamabad has positioned itself as a mediator, maintaining ties with both countries and facilitating engagement between the two sides. Pakistani officials have repeatedly emphasised that continued dialogue is key to achieving a lasting and durable solution.
The presence of Iran’s central bank chief in the delegation highlights the economic dimension of the negotiations, with issues such as sanctions relief, access to financial assets and regional trade expected to feature prominently in discussions.
The talks, which began on Saturday, are being closely watched globally as a test of whether diplomacy can stabilise the region and restore economic confidence.
