Iran claims hit on world’s most advanced US F‑35 fighter jet
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Thursday that it struck a US F‑35 stealth fighter over central Iran, marking a significant development in ongoing regional hostilities. The incident comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that military operations against Iran would continue “as long as necessary.”
In a statement, the IRGC said it had launched the 65th wave of its ongoing Operation True Promise‑4, targeting oil refineries in Haifa and Ashdod in Israel, along with other strategic military and security facilities across the region. The operation marked the first combat deployment of Iran’s upgraded Qader cruise missile, signaling a notable advancement in its missile capabilities.
The IRGC further stated that its missile arsenal targeted US-linked military installations in the Gulf, including the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, the Isa Air Base in Bahrain, and the Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates.
According to the IRGC, its advanced air defense systems intercepted and severely damaged the US F‑35 at approximately 02:50 Thursday local time. While the status of the aircraft remains under investigation, the IRGC suggested that the jet likely crashed.
The successful interception of the F‑35, following the downing of more than 125 US and Israeli drones in previous operations, is being cited by the IRGC as evidence of significant improvements to its air defense capabilities.
On Friday, the IRGC announced the launch of the 66th round of Operation True Promise‑4, deploying a combination of ultra-heavy multi-warhead missiles and drones to strike targets in central and southern Israel, as well as US military bases across the Middle East. Analysts warn that the continued escalation of missile strikes and air defense operations could further destabilize the region and heighten tensions between Iran, Israel, and US forces.
