Iran has strongly condemned what it described as a US attack on its territory on Thursday, according to a statement from the country’s Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran denounced the strike in areas of Bandar Abbas, calling it a violation of Iranian sovereignty. The statement did not provide further operational details but characterised the incident as a serious escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Baghaei also said Iran stood in solidarity with Oman following what he referred to as “threats” issued by US officials. His remarks came after comments attributed to US President Donald Trump warning Oman in the context of tensions over control and security in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.

Tehran said such rhetoric and actions risk further destabilising an already volatile regional situation. The Foreign Ministry urged restraint and respect for international law, warning against any measures that could expand the scope of the confrontation.

The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Gulf to the Arabian Sea, remains a strategic chokepoint for global energy supplies, and has frequently been at the centre of geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States and Gulf countries.

Iran has repeatedly accused Washington of escalating hostilities in the region, while the US has maintained that its actions are aimed at ensuring maritime security and deterring threats to commercial shipping.
