Iran denies direct US talks as ‘Operation Epic Fury’ escalates

Iran-Israel war

WEB DESK: In an interview broadcast on state television on Wednesday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi dismissed reports of any diplomatic breakthrough, describing recent developments as merely an “exchange of messages” rather than substantive negotiations, according to Reuters.

He characterised Washington’s apparent willingness to propose terms as indicative of “defeat,” contrasting it with earlier US demands for unconditional surrender.

The remarks come against the backdrop of “Operation Epic Fury,” a US-led campaign of sustained air strikes on Iranian targets, which has prompted retaliatory drone and missile attacks by Tehran against Israel and American allies in the region.

Araqchi further claimed that Iran had asserted control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, stating it remained accessible to friendly nations while effectively restricted to adversaries, even as global energy markets face mounting uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Tehran is reportedly assessing a 15-point proposal attributed to US President Donald Trump conveyed through Pakistani intermediaries which calls for sweeping concessions including the removal of highly enriched uranium, a complete halt to enrichment activities, and limits on Iran’s missile programme and regional influence.

Despite this, Araqchi maintained that any de-escalation would be contingent upon Iran’s terms, including compensation for damages and firm guarantees against future military action.
