ISLAMABAD: Iran’s embassy in Pakistan on Friday rejected as “misleading” a viral social media post alleging that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Pakistan of betrayal over regional developments.
The claim, widely circulated online, suggested that Tehran had criticised Islamabad for allowing oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz and questioned Pakistan’s role amid ongoing tensions in the region.
In a statement posted on its official account, the Iranian embassy said the reports “do not reflect reality” and warned that some accounts were spreading harmful narratives.
“The news shared by these accounts are misleading and do not reflect reality,” the embassy said, urging the public to rely on official and credible sources.
The clarification comes as misinformation has proliferated on social media amid heightened geopolitical tensions, particularly involving Iran and the United States.
There was no immediate comment from Pakistan’s foreign office on the viral claims.
