Iran offers Pakistan a ‘blank cheque’ for cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Iran’s National Security Council, Secretary Ali Larijani has said that Iran is giving Pakistan a “blank cheque” for cooperation, which Pakistan may use whenever and however it wishes.

Talking to Hum News programme “Faisala Aap Ka” with Asma Shirazi, Ali Larijani said that Pakistan’s strong cooperation and solidarity with Iran during the period of Israeli aggression was unprecedented.

According to him, relations between Pakistan and Iran are not merely diplomatic, but founded on cultural, religious and historical ties.

He said that both countries are two significant powers in the region with shared interests and common adversaries.

Ali Larijani further said that Israel revealed its true nature by attacking Qatar, despite having existing channels with the country.

He said Iran was aware in advance that such an attack could take place, and that Pakistan also understood the situation fully.

He added that the United States has always supported Israel from behind the scenes, while Israel’s real aim is to weaken the resistance forces in the region.

The former speaker of Iran’s Majlis-e-Shura said that after the attack on Qatar, many friendly countries, including Saudi Arabia, realised the reality of the situation.

Commenting on the situation following Israeli aggression, Ali Larijani said: “We are all Muslims — our Qibla, our Book and our Prophet are the same. The presence of an enemy like Israel creates unity among the Muslim world.”

The adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader praised Pakistan’s leadership openly, saying that Pakistan’s army chief, president and prime minister provided excellent counsel during the Israeli aggression.

He thanked Pakistan’s parliament and the public, noting that the resolution passed by Pakistan’s parliament in favour of Iran would always be remembered. “Iran will never forget Pakistan’s support,” he said.

Iran’s clear stance on Palestine

Responding to a question on Palestine, he said Iran’s position is principled and democratic. Referring to the Irani Supreme Leader, he noted that many years ago it had been stated clearly that the final decision must rest with the people of Palestine. “The White House cannot decide Palestine’s future — just as it cannot decide Pakistan’s,” he added.

He considered some elements of the Gaza peace proposal workable, particularly clauses related to prisoner exchange. However, he emphasised that “Gaza’s administration must remain with its own people. A force formed solely for border security may be acceptable, but if the aim is to disarm Gaza, it will only worsen the situation.”

He also said that Hamas is a part of Gaza and Palestine, asking, “Who do you plan to remove? Such experiments failed in Iraq.”*

Firm stance on Iran’s nuclear programme

Ali Larijani reiterated that talk of dismantling Iran’s nuclear programme is “immature.”

“We have thousands of nuclear experts. Iran has already passed that stage — but we are not building nuclear weapons. Our path is peaceful.”

He said Iran is not opposed to negotiations, but not to those in which outcomes are pre-decided.

In response to a question, he expressed concern over tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He stated that Field Marshal Asim Munir seeks strategic relations and Iran is ready to fulfil its responsibility towards Pakistan.

He stressed the need for a joint regional strategy against terrorist organisations, saying these groups operate across several countries and have an ideological background.

Iran–Pakistan gas pipeline

On the gas pipeline issue, he said Iran’s portion is complete and the pipeline has reached the border. “We would be happy to see Pakistan’s energy problems resolved through Iranian gas,” he added.

Possibility of war with India

He said he does not foresee a possibility of India launching a war against Pakistan under the current circumstances.

“We give Pakistan and the people of Pakistan a blank cheque — use it wherever, whenever you wish.”
