ISLAMABAD: Maritime trade between Iran and Qatar resumes after a suspension of nearly five months, Iran’s commercial attaché in Doha says.
According to Iranian state media, shipping between Iran’s Dayyer Port and Qatar’s Al Ruwais Port resumes following coordination between the Iranian embassy in Doha and Qatari authorities.
The resumption follows an interim agreement signed by Tehran and Washington last month, which ended hostilities after a four-month conflict and called for the restoration of pre-war maritime traffic in the Gulf. However, transit in and out of the Gulf remains disputed.
The two ports mainly handle regional trade. Dayyer Port is hit several times during the conflict.
Last month, an official from Iran’s Trade Promotion Organisation said Iranian goods began clearing at the UAE’s Jebel Ali Port, the region’s largest port, signalling a gradual recovery in trade across the Gulf.
