Iran, Russia foreign ministers discuss regional situation, welcome draft Iran-US agreement

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation on Tuesday to discuss the evolving regional situation, the protection of civilians and efforts aimed at promoting stability in the Middle East.
According to Al Jazeera, Araghchi briefed his Russian counterpart on the details of a recently concluded memorandum of understanding and developments surrounding a draft agreement between Iran and the United States.
The two diplomats exchanged views on regional security issues and stressed the importance of diplomatic engagement in addressing ongoing conflicts and humanitarian concerns.
Focus on civilian protection and Lebanon
During the conversation, both sides underscored the need to ensure the protection of civilians amid continuing tensions in the region.
They also highlighted the importance of bringing an end to Israeli military actions in Lebanon, warning that further escalation could undermine efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability.
The ministers reiterated their commitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives and reducing tensions through dialogue and international cooperation.
Russia backs implementation of draft agreement
Lavrov welcomed the draft agreement reached between Iran and the United States, describing it as a positive step towards regional stability and constructive engagement.
The Russian foreign minister said Moscow would provide full support to Iran in the implementation of the agreement and expressed hope that it would contribute to strengthening peace and security across the region.
He also called on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to support the memorandum of understanding, stressing that broad international backing would be essential for the successful implementation of the accord and the promotion of long-term regional stability.
