Iran says armed forces ready for any scenario amid fears of wider conflict

TEHRAN: Iran said on Wednesday its armed forces were prepared for any possible scenario and warned that those who dared act against the country would face “severe punishment”, as tensions with the United States and Israel continued to rise.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei made the remarks in a lengthy statement posted on X, accusing Washington and Israel of imposing war on Iran and threatening global stability.

Baghaei said the conflict was “not merely about land or resources” but would define the meaning of “good and evil” for the present and future generations.

“The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are ready for any scenario,” he said, adding that those committing hostility against Iran would receive “severe punishment”.

He urged the international community to reject what he called “barbarism and domination” and to take practical steps before “aggressive powers push the world into lawlessness and subjugation”.

Baghaei accused Iran’s adversaries of celebrating violations of international law and targeting civilians for political objectives.

“Those attacking the peaceful Iranian nation kill people for their own game,” he said, adding that Iran, by contrast, sought to protect innocent lives even during conflict.

He said remaining silent during such a moment amounted to siding with wrongdoing.

Revolutionary Guards stage large-scale Tehran drill

Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps conducted large-scale military exercises in Tehran aimed at improving combat readiness against possible threats from the United States and Israel.

According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, the drill involved rapid response units from the Revolutionary Guards and the بسیج paramilitary force.

The exercise supervisor, Brigadier General Hassan Hassanzadeh, said all planned military strategies, tactics and operational plans were successfully tested and reviewed.

“The enhancement of combat preparedness against American and Israeli aggression was among the key objectives of the exercise, and all goals were fully achieved,” he said.

The drills come amid heightened regional tensions and growing fears of a broader military confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

Araghchi to attend BRICS summit in India

Baghaei also announced that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi would travel to India to attend the upcoming BRICS summit.

The visit comes as Tehran seeks diplomatic engagement with major regional and global powers while facing increasing military and economic pressure from the West.
