WEB DESK: Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters has accused Israel of violating the southern Lebanon ceasefire 84 times within 48 hours of US President Donald Trump declaring an end to the war, warning of a “harsh response” if the strikes persist.

The supreme operational command, which coordinates both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s regular military, issued the stark warning as regional tensions threaten to derail an upcoming diplomatic breakthrough.

Tehran maintains that the newly announced truce is being systematically undermined by ongoing Israeli military actions on the ground, according to Middle East Eye.

Fragile Truce Under Strain

According to the Iranian command, the Israeli military has executed dozens of breaches since the White House announcement, including drone strikes, missile launches, and artillery fire targeting various sectors of southern Lebanon.

Tehran officials claimed these operations have resulted in several Lebanese casualties, directly violating the terms of the cessation of hostilities.

The friction arrives at a highly sensitive moment for regional diplomacy. Washington and Tehran are currently preparing to formally sign a finalized memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, aimed at cementing a long-term diplomatic framework.

Analysts fear that the escalatory rhetoric and active kinetic operations could jeopardize the fragile progress achieved by international mediators.

Territorial Disputes Threaten MoU

The primary point of contention between the adversarial powers remains the presence of troops in southern Lebanon. Tehran has reiterated that any lasting ceasefire and subsequent finalization of the MoU remains contingent upon a complete and immediate Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory.

Conversely, Tel Aviv has signaled a different approach. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously stated that Israeli forces intend to maintain positions within designated security zones for the foreseeable future to prevent any security vacuum.

With drone strikes reportedly continuing to target vehicles in areas such as Mayfadoun and Shoukin, the stark divergence in territorial expectations underscores the immense vulnerability of the interim peace deal ahead of the formal signing ceremony.
