WEB DESK: US projectiles struck a wheat storage silo in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province early on Wednesday morning, Iranian state media reported. According to Valiollah Hayati, the deputy governor for security and law enforcement affairs in Khuzestan, the overnight strike hit a grain storage facility in Hoveyzeh County.
Speaking to the Fars news agency, the official confirmed that another location in the neighbouring Dasht-e Azadegan county was also targeted during the attack. No casualties have been reported from either site.
Region on edge
The incident comes amid a sharp escalation in regional hostilities, marked by successive waves of US military strikes and Iranian retaliatory actions.
The state broadcaster, IRIB, confirmed that the agricultural infrastructure in Hoveyzeh suffered damage in the early hours of Wednesday.
While US Central Command (CENTCOM) has previously maintained that its operations focus strictly on military assets and facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), local officials in Khuzestan condemned the targeting of essential food storage sites.
Provincial authorities added that an investigation has been launched to fully assess the extent of the damage at both targeted locations.
