Iran’s Iskandar Momani arrives in Pakistan to boost bilateral ties

WEB DESK: Iranian Interior Minister Iskandar Momani arrived in Islamabad on a high-level visit, where he was warmly welcomed by his Pakistani counterpart Mohsin Naqvi at the airport.

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghaddam was also present, while State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry presented a bouquet to the visiting minister.

Welcoming his Iranian counterpart, Mohsin Naqvi said, “I welcome my brother to Pakistan and hope Iskandar Momani has brought good news.” He expressed hope for progress on regional issues, adding that the visit would further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations.

Later, Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with Iskandar Momani in Islamabad, where both sides discussed matters of mutual interest.

The Iranian interior minister said he was pleased to meet his “brother” Mohsin Naqvi again, describing Pakistan-Iran relations as historic and unprecedented. He also appreciated the hospitality extended by the Pakistani government and people.

During his visit, Iskandar Momani is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, according to state media.

The meeting comes at a time of renewed tensions in the Middle East following fresh US strikes on Iran. Over the past 10 days, the United States has targeted more than 95 key sites in Tehran and other parts of the country, prompting the Iranian leadership to suspend all commitments related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Following its temporary withdrawal from the Islamabad talks, Iran launched a series of missile strikes targeting key US military bases in the Middle East. The attacks killed at least two US soldiers and wounded four others.
