Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB has aired a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claiming it carried out a retaliatory strike following what it described as a US military attack near Bandar Abbas International Airport.
According to the broadcast, the IRGC public relations office said the United States launched an “aggressive” dawn strike using aerial projectiles targeting an area close to the strategic southern port city of Bandar Abbas. The statement added that Iranian forces responded by striking the American base from which the attack allegedly originated at around 4:50 a.m.
The IRGC described its action as a “serious warning” aimed at signalling that any aggression against Iran would not go unanswered. It further cautioned that any repetition of such attacks would trigger a more decisive and powerful response, with the scale of retaliation increasing significantly.
The statement, read on IRIB by a news anchor, stressed that responsibility for any consequences of escalation would lie entirely with the party initiating hostilities. No details were provided about possible damage, casualties, or the exact location of the purported US facility. However, the remarks come amid already heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, particularly in the Gulf region.
The Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters remain sensitive flashpoints, where military activity and security disputes have repeatedly raised fears of broader escalation between the two sides.
