WEB DESK: In this world full of people with mic and sound equipment it was about time that the Royal family took the reins of the podcast kingdom. Turns out that King Charles III has quietly made his podcasting debut (again). The British monarch recorded a surprise episode of Unearthed with actress Cate Blanchett and conservationist Dr Elinor Breman, discussing his decades-long passion for nature and biodiversity. The recording took place in July at Windsor Castle’s gardens, where the king opened up about his early work in preserving heritage seeds and his involvement in establishing the Millennium Seed Bank back in 2000, the world’s largest plant conservation project.
According to US Magazine.com, the King speaking to Blanchett, who serves as an ambassador for Kew’s Wakehurst nature reserve, Charles reflected on his motivation behind the project: “I just felt it was critical to keep the balance, we may need them at a later stage.” The podcast also highlighted the seed bank’s progress, which has now safeguarded over 85 percent of the UK’s threatened plant species.
The monarch also shared glimpses of his ongoing efforts to rejuvenate Windsor’s private gardens, “a real labour of love,” as Blanchett called it.
This isn’t Charles’s first foray into audio storytelling; earlier this year, he curated a personal music playlist for a royal-themed podcast.
The announcement of King Charles’ upcoming documentary Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision, slated for early 2026, followed his joint appearance with Prince William at a COP30 event in London. Reports suggest ongoing tension between the two, intensified after William’s recent remarks on Apple TV’s The Reluctant Traveler, where he spoke about embracing “change for good” within the monarchy, comments seen as hinting at his evolving vision for the royal family.
