ISLAMABAD: The US State Department has issued a new security advisory for Pakistan, urging American citizens traveling to the country to exercise heightened caution. The advisory comes in the wake of a suicide bombing in Islamabad’s Tarlai Kalan.
American citizens are being advised to avoid public gatherings, remain vigilant, and review their personal security plans. The State Department also encouraged travelers to stay informed through local media for updates on the situation.
The Islamabad blast, which shocked the nation, has been linked to the banned ISIS, according to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Speaking at a press conference, Naqvi confirmed that the mastermind behind the attack is in custody, and authorities have apprehended several facilitators. Security operations in Peshawar and Nowshera reportedly resulted in casualties, including the martyrdom of one official.
Naqvi stated that the attackers were trained in Afghanistan and that the operation was funded externally, alleging India increased support for terrorist activities in recent months. “Pakistan is fully prepared to prevent such incidents,” he added, urging the public to cooperate with intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
The Interior Minister also highlighted security challenges in Islamabad, noting that the capital has 93 entry points and that most police personnel in the Red Zone are above 50 years old. He warned that social media platforms hosting accounts involved in terrorist activities could face action.
Naqvi noted that terrorist organisations operate systematically from across the border, but Pakistan has successfully prevented 99 planned attacks so far. “Those who plan against Pakistan will be dealt with at every possible level,” he said, stressing that security operations will continue aggressively.
