WEB DESK: Islamabad hosted a ceremony to mark Romania’s National Day, attended by Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, and other political and social figures. The event also saw the participation of National Assembly member Daniyal Chaudhry and Romania’s ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Dan Stoenescu.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Abbasi reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to further expanding bilateral relations with Romania. He praised Romania’s cooperation in trade, education, and other sectors, and extended best wishes for the country’s continued peace, prosperity, and development.
Ambassador Dr Dan Stoenescu emphasised the historic significance of 1 December, celebrating the 1918 Great Union that unified Romania. He described the occasion as “a symbolic moment for national unity and the solidarity of Romanian society,” adding that it provides an opportunity to reaffirm the country’s values and its confident path toward freedom, security, and prosperity.
Dr Stoenescu noted that this year also marks 61 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and Pakistan, highlighting over six decades of friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation across political, economic, cultural, and academic fields. He said, “Our partnership has grown consistently, and we remain committed to deepening these bonds in the years ahead.”
He stressed Romania’s efforts to expand its presence in Pakistan, including opening the Honorary Consulate in Peshawar and plans for new consulates in Karachi and Lahore. He also highlighted initiatives such as the first Romania–Pakistan IT Forum, strengthened defense ties, and people-to-people exchanges, including cultural events and academic collaborations.
Reflecting on global security, Dr Stoenescu stressed Romania’s support for Ukraine and NATO efforts on the Eastern Flank, reaffirming the country’s commitment to sovereignty, democracy, and international cooperation.
Concluding, he said, “Our friendship with Pakistan continues to grow stronger across culture, education, trade, and security. By building on this solid foundation, we will continue to deepen our partnership for a brighter future. Romania–Pakistan dosti zindabad!”
