Islamabad on ‘red alert’ as US-Iran peace talks begin under heavy guard

WEB DESK: Islamabad has been placed on a state of ‘red alert’ as the city prepares to host high-stakes peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.

In a massive display of security, over 10,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been stationed across the federal capital to provide an impenetrable ring of protection for the visiting international delegates.

A multi-tiered security apparatus

According to official sources, the comprehensive security plan is being supervised directly by the military to ensure zero margin for error.

This multi-layered arrangement sees the military working in close coordination with paramilitary forces, including the Rangers, alongside the Islamabad and Punjab police departments.

The heavy deployment aims to secure not only the Red Zone and the summit venues but also the entry and exit points of the city, maintaining a vigilant presence throughout the duration of the talks.

Managing public order and logistics

Beyond the immediate tactical security, significant measures have been taken to manage the city’s infrastructure and movement.

The Islamabad Traffic Police, supported by the National Highway and Motorway Police, have been mobilised to manage road networks and prevent any logistical bottlenecks.

While certain routes have been restricted for VIP movement, officials are working to ensure a relatively smooth flow of traffic for residents, despite the stringent checks and the heightened state of readiness across the capital.
