Islamabad police devise Muharram security plan

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have devised a security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram. From the 1st of Muharram to the 2nd of Rabi ul Awwal, 181 processions and 965 gatherings are scheduled. Drone cameras will record video for procession security.
Surveillance will utilize CCTV cameras for both processions and gatherings. Special checks will cover the city’s internal and external routes, including procession routes. The Bomb Disposal Squad will ensure route clearance.

Over 16,000 officers from the police and rangers will be deployed. Participation in processions by local and foreign individuals will be permitted after thorough screening.
The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee declared on Saturday that the moon for Muharram has not been sighted in Pakistan.
Consequently, the first day of Muharram will commence on July 8 (Monday). As per the announcement, Ashura, which falls on Muharram 10, will be observed on July 17 (Wednesday).
