WEB DESK: A high-level meeting was held at the Islamabad Police headquarters under the chairmanship of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Muhammad Jawad Tariq to review security arrangements for Muharram, officials said on Wednesday.
The meeting was briefed on the comprehensive security plan devised to ensure peace and protection during religious gatherings and processions across the federal capital.
Officers were assigned special duties, while coordination with relevant departments was further strengthened to ensure effective implementation of the plan.
Enhanced deployment and surveillance measures
The DIG directed that foolproof security be ensured during Muharram, with special focus on sensitive areas of the city. He ordered intensified patrolling and search-and-comb operations, alongside enhanced surveillance and monitoring mechanisms.
Security personnel will conduct thorough screening of participants in processions and majalis using metal detectors. Special attention will also be given to key entry and exit points, as well as imambargahs and other places of worship, to prevent any untoward incident.
Traffic management and inter-agency coordination
DIG Muhammad Jawad Tariq emphasised that traffic police would remain on duty round-the-clock to ensure smooth flow of traffic during Muharram processions and gatherings. He further instructed officials to review procession routes in detail and ensure clearance of bushes and wild vegetation along the designated paths.
He also stressed the importance of close coordination with imambargah administrators and peace committees to maintain harmony and strengthen community engagement.
Reiterating the force’s commitment, the DIG said protecting lives and property and maintaining a peaceful environment during Muharram remained the top priority of Islamabad Police.
