Security concerns: majority of Islamabad schools opt for closure

Despite reassurances from Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan about the security situation being under control in the federal capital, a significant number of schools in Islamabad chose to stay closed today (Tuesday).

In a video message posted on the capital police’s official handle, IGP Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan advised against altering school and college schedules, emphasizing that the security situation in the federal capital is currently manageable. However, contrary to this advice, a majority of schools opted for closure and opted to conduct classes online.

Parents, expressing concerns about security threats, were hesitant to send their children to school today. Adding to the cautious approach, three major universities in the capital—Bahria, Air University, and National Defense University—had already declared indefinite closures.

Quaid-e-Azam University, on the other hand, decided to open Wednesday and announced that the exams scheduled for Monday and Tuesday would be rescheduled for Saturdays.

Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) issued an advisory, urging private schools to enhance security measures. Notably, PEIRA clarified that no official notification had been issued regarding the closure of schools.

Meanwhile, the Federal Directorate of Education, responsible for overseeing public schools and colleges in the federal capital, stated that all public sector institutions would operate as usual on Wednesday, dispelling any concerns of closure.

This conflicting situation highlights the delicate balance between security concerns and the need for regular academic activities in the capital’s educational institutions.
