An Iranian delegation led by Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Islamabad on the eve of high-stakes ceasefire talks with the United States, the Foreign Office confirmed on Saturday.

According to the FO, the visiting delegation was received at the airport by a senior Pakistani leadership contingent, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The visit comes a day ahead of planned negotiations between Tehran and Washington, with Pakistan playing a facilitative role in bringing both sides to the table amid heightened regional tensions.

In its statement, the Foreign Office said Dar welcomed the Iranian delegation and stressed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation. He expressed hope that all parties involved in the talks would approach the dialogue in a constructive spirit.

Dar also reiterated Islamabad’s willingness to continue assisting both sides in efforts to reach a sustainable and long-term resolution to the conflict. Pakistan has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred path forward, particularly in light of the fragile security situation in the region.

The arrival of the Iranian delegation signals a crucial step in ongoing efforts to ease tensions, with expectations that the upcoming talks could lay the groundwork for a broader understanding between the two longstanding adversaries.
