WASHINGTON: Military officials from Israel and Lebanon held talks in Washington, with US officials describing the engagement as constructive and a step toward easing regional tensions.

According to American officials, the meeting between Israeli and Lebanese military representatives was “productive” and held in a positive atmosphere, focusing on security-related issues of mutual concern.

A Pentagon commander said the military-level dialogue is expected to strengthen upcoming political negotiations scheduled for next week, adding that such engagements could help build momentum for broader diplomatic progress. US officials welcomed the outcome of the discussions, saying the talks reflected encouraging cooperation between the two sides despite longstanding political and security tensions.

They added that continued military communication could contribute to stabilising the situation and support efforts aimed at reducing hostilities in the region.
